Yes Alan, sometimes the trough is almost empty of water (in the winter months) and in the spring I can't get to this place, everything around is flooded.

… Peter: Beautiful image. Myself, I would seriously consider cropping out the bottom third of the river bed, converting to a 16x9. To the image as a whole, the great brightness of the bottom blows out the subtle lights and shading of the top of the image.

I think that the crop is better balanced. But if you wanted to emphasize the foreground, you might crop a bit of the sky instead.
It's a nice shot either way.
