Tumalo Falls

On our way to eclipse viewing in Oregon, had time for a hike outside of Bend.
This is a very popular area & crowded. It was also smoky from many wild fires.
It has some great views of these falls.
What better place to try out my recently repaired Mamiya 7! Shot on Ektar

Up the creek
Taken with the 150mm
I think this one is a touch soft in the distance as I'm not used to focusing this lens

I like the first and the sense of scale the people provide.

I'm not as fond with the 2nd image. I feel the 65mm is pulling the bottom of the falls a little too close to the top. I'd like to see what a 35mm or wider lens would do to create some separation from the top and bottom of the falls.

Hey Dan,

Welcome to FocalWorld! It's great to see you here. :)

I like the view of the first one, I think I would add a bit more contrast to it. It looks like a midday shot, but adding a bit of contrast while watching that the water doesn't blow out, I think will help make it pop a bit more and not feel as flat as I think it does.

With #2, That's a cool composition. I like Ryan's suggestion, and I am glad he suggested it, but it's true, going to a wider lens there would have helped separate the bottom from the top more. But still, a very unique and compelling composition.

I will say I am just a bit jealous of your Mamiya 7.

I like the comp in the first image but the soft focus dials it back a bit for me. Jim's suggestion for more contrast would help.

The smoky conditions may have helped with the midday light here. I have some old shots of those falls in bright sunlight and the range from the shadows to the bright falls was simply too much for the olde canon 20D I was using at the time.

The 65 is actually a 32mm equiv, but your right. A bit wider would have helped. I did have a 25mm equiv but it requires an external VF to frame. Thanks for the comments
