I found this trio of white pelicans doing some behavior at Bear River NWR a few weeks back. Taken for R5 and RF 800 f11.

Thanks Jim, they are probably right on the border, I am just getting to learn this lens. Its a pretty good lens, but in hind sight I could have stayed with the 100-400 and 2X for the same 800 f11. I still have the 100-400 but might sell it for the 100-500 Rf just to get closer to an all RF mount.
I am in the process of selling my 5DSR so I will be down to one camera. I would like to get down to just one lens per focal range.

The 800/11 is a lot lighter than the 100-400 + 2x convertor. If you are going RF only, then it makes sense to swap the 100-400 with a 100-500. It is also lighter than the 100-400.

The 100 to 400 is reputed to be sharper and I already have it. I do most bird photography from my truck so weight is not an issue. The 800 has a minimum focus distance issue which ruined a lot of my shots last trip out. It was my fault for not setting the focus distance switch correctly. But even when set its quite far.

Interesting solution, it would prevent infinity focus I suppose, but probably not a problem. do you have the 800 now?
Yes with the extension tube, you lose infinity focus. Depending on the target, you will add the tube or use the lens by itself.
Yes I have the 800. Will likely add the tubes as well. I do have the EF tubes which I use with macro.
