Thirlwall Castle

Today is a day of big clouds, rain and sunshine, perfect for photography. This is Thirlwall Castle about 10 miles from home and another building totally built with Roman stones from the nearby wall. Strong castles were needed between 1300 and 1600 when the border wars between Scotland and England were raging. The castle and lands were sold to the Earl of Carlisle in the 18thC. He only wanted the land and let the castle fall into disrepair. Hadrian's Wall is nearby and in the first image a group of walkers can be seen walking up to view the castle. Initial processing using deep prime, deep prime seems to misread the camera temp and tint settings, or at least it does when the camera is set to auto white balance. I will investigate further. Wow - I love the dark clouds and patchy sunshine on this castle. I especially like the light in the second image.

What interesting history Ken. I enjoyed reading that.

Both of these are great, I think I prefer #1 but it's a close call.
