Third Time's the Charm for Mesa Arch

My friends and I spent two nights in Moab during our motorcycle trip. We drove 350-some miles from Page, AZ the day before and on this day, we *only* drove about 160 miles. Granted, those miles were pretty leisurely, like on the wonderful, curvy roads inside and outside Canyonlands National Park.

On my road trip last year, I tried to get into Canyonlands twice but a snowstorm prevented entry past the Island in the Sky visitor center. So on my third attempt on this trip, I finally got to see Mesa Arch for myself. This location is certainly iconic for a reason and I thought it was even more spectacular in person. To my complete surprise, the crowds weren't that dense so visiting the arch was tolerable and it was easy to get away from people and experience complete silence overlooking this viewpoint.

Hey Michael,

I am glad you got there, and this is a very nice capture of it.

The reason there wasn't really any crowds is because everyone goes for sunrise there. The sunrise shot with the sun just breaking the horizon and the bottom of Mesa Arch glowing red is the iconic shot there.

I think you now need to go back a 4th time and get there for sunrise. :) Be sure to be there 1.5 hours before sunrise before the crowds get too bad. Usually by an hour before sunset there can be 30 to 5 people all lined up in a row about 15 feet back from the arch so that all of the arch and sky above can be taken in.

I’ll make it happen, perhaps on a road trip to Glacier NP.
