The Start of the Colors

I wandered up the Gorge on Tuesday to check out fall color progress. Things are generally just getting started but when I first started looking around on my controller screen I was shocked to see a lot of bare branches where last year was stunning colors. My first thought was that somehow I had missed the color show as I could see quite a number of bare trees. It wasn't until I got home and was scanning over the shots on a larger screen that I figured out we had quite a few trees that didn't make it through last winter all around the perimeter of the wetlands as there are no dead leaves under these trees at all. Just a bit away from the edge of the wetlands this year's colors are just getting started with a lot of green leaves still present so we are still at least a week out from more serious fall colors.

Thanks Oliver - I flew in this area quite a number of times last fall and got some good views of the Gorge from this altitude and approximate location in the air. It was one of the first spots I went to once I launched since I knew what to expect.
