The Pod

This pod of Orcas taunted me and eluded me for days in Alaska before they finally cooperated on my last day on the water. Well, there may have been other pods along the route, but this particular event was the highlight of the wildlife photography for me there. This is hard work, and I spent good parts of many days studying their behavior and estimating their showings. Many failures before this moment. This was in the Icy Straight just above Chichagof Island, still 1.5 days out from Juneau.

That's a breach, not a spy hop (>50% of the body out of the water). But I'm not complaining! Wonderful! (if noisy)
