Some of the most frustrating things I tried to shoot in Jordan were mosaics on the floors of Byzantine era churches along the King's Highway. There were quite a few notable ones I didn't get to shoot (the mosaic map of Jerusalem in Madaba for starters) and of the ones we did get to take our cameras inside for there was no way to really shoot the artwork since it was on the floor and (understandably) you could only stand at the outside of the room and shoot across the floor. Great case for a TS-E lens or a field camera but I had neither so you pretty much had to guess at what would work for a focal point and the smallest aperture you could muster. I had a 28mm lens at the time and that was no where near wide enough.
These are a set of images of the mosaics on the floor of the church of Saints Lot and Procopius at Khirbet al-Mukhayyat in Mt. Nebo Jordan.
A view of the alter area.
and two of the mosaics from the floor:
C&C always welcome.
