The Mallard

On our stop in York, Martin took Carlo and me through the National Railway Museum. Being an old rail from my college days, this was a wonderful experience for me!
The colors they put on their trains was something to see.
First I'll show is The Mallard, originally built in 1938, and for a time the fastest steam locomotive in the world, clocking 125.88 MPH! Not her normal operating speed, of course!

The train was polished to a lovely shine!

Wow - I have not seen a steam locomotive like this before. I like it - and your shots of it as well.

Unbelievably clean for such a piece of machinery.

Mallard made lots of models, they had a cab forward model that used to run by my Jr High School when I was there in the mid 50's. Not as pretty as this, but it was a big engine.
