After turning back at the ice choked entry into a slot canyon further down the road (looks great for summer), I made a split second decision to walk down this trail in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument which was named for the creek running down for it. I figured my dog & I could at least stretch our legs a bit. I brought my camera, but not tripod. After 15 or 20 minutes, we came to a narrows, which I tried to shoot, but getting a sharp image was really difficult. A small waterfall at the end of another short narrows came next. Sunlight was hitting the top, but I still tried to get a decent image. I decided to turn back and get my tripod. Upon returning to the vehicle, I checked the app that listed the hike & saw that it claimed the most interesting scenery was below the waterfall. I went through 3 more narrows sections, this one being my favorite. Much of the walking was over 1/2" of slick mud on top of ice. My gait was not unlike an infant: wide stance, short, flat-footed steps and arms out to the sides for balance. Even my dog was slipping. But, boy, it was worth it!

I didn't know what to expect from that title Monika but it sure didn't disappoint. What a super cool image! I am glad you went back for your tripod as this is sure beautiful. What a great combination of light and dark.

What app did you use?

Thanks, Jim. I used Road Trip Ryan. I've found it to be very useful for finding less popular places.

Beautiful slot and a really nice capture of it. Sounds like it could be a bit hazardous during the winter months.
Those were conditions I haven't encountered in slots before. My friends who live most of the year in Boulder, UT had spoken about how dry this winter has been, so I thought slots might be possible. When I had looked at road conditions (in my road buzzed state), I had looked at the other branch of this road. That one was open, but this one was listed as "impassable" when I got cell service & could look at it again. There was a very nasty looking section between this TH & the icy one, with deep ruts in snow on top of mud. Fortunately, it was still frozen & drove much, much easier than it looked.
