Sunflowers

The town where I live in New Zealand is home to the country's largest seed producer, and each year they plant enormous fields of sunflowers in the area, always moving them from place to place, since the plants are so demanding on the soil where they grow. This year the plantings are near where we're building our new house, so I get to see them every time I visit the building site.

Those are a really nice sight for those of us in mid winter right now. I like how you composed the first image with the distant peak framed in the break in the hedge.

Thanks! I drive by that hedge every time I visit our new place, and I’ve struggled to shoot it in an interesting way. But with the oodles of sunflowers it finally had that je ne sais quoi it needed!

Wow! I love sunflowers! They are such a cool flower, and somehow they just make a person smile!

So that's so awesome that these are not too far from your new house. There are some sunflower fields in SW Colorado that I like to photograph, and also some up in South Dakota that I have discovered. You are correct that they move where they plant them from year to year, so each year it's kind of fun in trying to explore and discover where they got planted.

#1 is awesome! Love how you composed it with that opening in the hedge having a view of that mountain peak in the background. Great eye on your part. I like the detail of those sunflower before they opened. I haven't shot that myself, but those are really cool. My other favorite is that pano image, that makes for a cool pano.

I need to come down and visit you! You really live in such an incredible area.
