Subtle Gold

The clouds are coming in! It looks to be a wet and wild weekend with lot's of clouds, but yesterday as the clouds were coming in, the sun was still able to make a bit of a show. There were lot's of clouds on the horizon to the west, so I wasn't expecting a great sunset, so getting a bit of gold up in the clouds as the sun was starting to set was a nice experience.

This is from Little Corona, my favorite beach in all of Southern California. For those familiar with my past photos, the central rock is Arch Rock, but seen from the side you don't see the arch. Normally that might be disappointing, but I think it has a cool shape to itself from the side also. So for me it works nicely. It was a medium tide last night, the biggest issue was that the waves were pretty flat. So I had to do a bit of waiting between wave sets.

I have the original image and a crop. I like the framing in the original with the way the rocks kind of wrap around the ground layer, but it does minimize the wave splash. I shot this with a fast shutter speed and saved the slower shutter speed for when it got darker.

Let me know if you like the image, and which one you prefer please. :)

Thanks,

Jim

I like the overall aesthetic of the wider view but the crop does make the splash more distinctive. If I had to just choose one it would be the wider version.
