I can never resist the pull of a good storm!
Just a couple of weeks ago, I and my students , while cruising through Capitol Reef National Park after leaving Torrey, I noticed the monsoonal clouds charging toward us. As I drove on high way 24, I glanced at the sky every a few minutes, feeling a tinge of excitement to build inside me.
At the first safe turnout, I pulled over, jumped out of the car, and snatched up my camera. There was no time to set up the tripod, the clouds moved fast and towered ominously over Cooks Mesa and Meeks Mesa, while rays of sunlight broke through, dotting the plateaus with bright, flickering patches of light, like a masterpiece being painted right before my eyes.
Just minutes later, the wind started to howl, and raindrops began to pelt us. We sprinted back to the car, buffeted by the roaring gusts, and continued our journey to Hanksville.
