STOL means "Short Take off landing.
There are a variety of competitions.
The simplest, that they didn't run, is taking off & immediately landing. Shortest distance wins! They didn't run that event
This had a 2000 ft course, taking off, coming to the end you have to stop before the line. Full power spin around 180 and head in the other direction
Sometimes there are handicap races with a slower plane getting X-seconds head start.
These planes are power by anything from a conventional Continental motor to a snowmobile engine.
Some engines can reach 9000 RPM. Other planes have reversible pitch props.
Sort of like "bush racing" that you might find on the Tundra
1. Close and tight
2 The leader for now...
3 This yaw/stall is to scrub off speed
4 Kinda looks like one plane
5 Some are prettier than others
6 Getting sideways
7 Doing the stall dance in pairs
8 From old Cessnas to Bush planes
