STF Flowers

Just a few flowers taken with Sony's 100/2.8 (T5.6) STF (Smooth Transition Focus) lens. It is an unique lens in that its out of focus character is remarkable. Its light transmission is poor relative to its F stop, but the blur is extraordinary. The STF lens is also extremely well corrected and sharp corner to corner. Overall, I find it a remarkable optic. It works well for portrait as well, tho not in low light circumstances. Anyway, here are a few flower shots with this lens:

Hey Stephen,

What a great set of photos you have here. I am picking 3 and 4 as my favorites.

I know I already talked with you about some gear reviews for you to write, so I hate to make another request... :) but looking at your thread here has made me think that you would be perfect to write up a short article on how to shoot flower closeups! :)

What do you think?

Jim, I fear it may be a case of "the blind leading the blind." If there is a ditch nearby, look out!

I do enjoy teaching and am happy to try to write something up if you think it might be helpful, but I fear I am no expert and am self taught and would approach the subject from a basic level. I do all of my shots with natural light, for example. Assuming that is acceptable, I am happy to try to write something brief and see if you find it useful.

As for equipment reviews, I guess I could write one now and again, but I will not be able to be as detailed and complete as some of the better online equipment reviewers. I simply don't have the time to dedicate the amount of time needed to do it up right--even assuming I am capable of doing so!

Hey Stephen,

Well... whatever you are doing, you are doing something right with these flower shots... :)

Just write up something simple, basic thought process, what lenses you like using. Natural light is perfect, that’s probably what most of us would use. So maybe how do you position yourself in relation to the light. Etc. just some helpful tips that could be a help to someone.

With any gear review. I personally thought that what you had written in the Sony forum was awesome. I think Hands on Reviews, should be shorter, and just share the thoughts and feelings of the author along with some photos to demonstrate their points. You did all that.

When you get the time, just email me anything you come up with. It will be greatly appreciated. :)
