I spent three nights photographing at this relatively remote above treelike lake basin in the central Sierra. Unfortunately we didn't even get even a hint of a cloud (these wisps are from smoke). With no clouds the light was too harsh and contrasty anytime other than right before or after sunrise/sunset. We were packing our cameras away before 6am and not shooting again to 8pm. Made for very long days.

Very cool Dave. Those cloudless days can make for very long days indeed. You for sure worked the sweet light you did have really well. I like composition a lot, and is that some ice still in the water?

Thanks, Jim. Yeah, the lake refroze each night with about a 1/4 of clear ice.

Yeah, lakes refroze each night. This was taken in late June but at nearly 12k ft. altitude.

I was with another landscaper and we were fixated on finding comps. We did a lot of exploring but no real climbing.

Wow, love this Dave, the placement of the near rock in the foreground and the sunset shadow line across the rocks gives this a uber-wide angle effect. Love the colors of everything
