Spring in Assynt day 1

My wife was attending A Gaelic music festival in Ullapool in NW Scotland from Fri 28th April to Mon 1st May and it seemed like a good opportunity to explore this location when daylight hours are longer Sunrise 05:30 Sunset 21:05 but for almost 1 hour before sunrise and after sunset the light can be nice. A week before our visit the wind was from the North and snow was on all of the mountains. However the wind swung round to the South and the snow started to melt fast. The forecast was for the first evening to be sunshine and showers but the next 3 days rain so as soon as we arrived and dropped our stuff at our accommodation I was off as I thought that this may be my only opportunity for "grand landscapes". I has decided that I wanted to find foregrounds for the "island" mountains. I call them mountains but they seldom reach 3,000ft but they are steep and rocky and need to be treated with care. The first 3 images were taken about 100yds from the road. I went looking for rocky outcrops as a foreground and quickly discovered that photographing heather clad hillsides at this time of year is not the best choice but I have discovered a good August ( heather blooming time) or snowy winter shooting spot.
The first image is a 180 degree panorama just to give an overview

I also wanted to try and get down onto one of the Lochs for a view into the main mountains and although I managed to find my way down to the shore the location gives an unbalanced view but at least I know where not to go.

I had to return to Ullapool to meet my wife and eat. The clouds swept in from the South West and blotted out any chance of a sunset.
End of Day1. Ken

Neat looking mountains - and a very rugged looking landscape in that area. My favorite is the last one with the Loch in the foreground and the valley beyond.

This looks like a great Day 1 Ken. That's some great terrain. My favorite is #2.
