Southwest trip mid September

I am going to be in Salt Lake City UT visiting my daughter mid September. Want to take a few days and go south to Monument Valley and also check out the Skyline Overlook. Will be driving a rental SUV.

Looking for tips and suggestions on:

- Is the timing good for this area?
- Places to stay. Won't be able to camp as I won't have my camping stuff with me.
- How much time to allocate for each location.
- Other potential areas to check out in the vicinity.

I haven't been to either location so this will be my first trip there.

thanks

Skyline is an easy drive from Hanksville
Stay and eat at dukes slickrock inn. Your rental ought ,to be good. May be really hot however.

The hotel at monument valley is a great staging place.

I am 40 miles south of salt lake care to meet up?

Take a photo tour of Monument Valley. They can take you on roads closed to the public and at times you can't go by yourself. I haven't gone since Tom Phillips was alive, but I think his business is still going.

If you like slot canyons, also look for tours of places like Canyon X/Cardiac Canyon -- even if it's hot out, those canyons are so narrow & convoluted, they'll be cool, even cold.

If you like ruins & rock art, the San Rafael Swell and Cedar Mesa are full of them.
