South Beach Sunset

According to my camping logs I have spent 20 nights at the Harris Beach campground in Brookings Oregon but until last night had never been present for a really colorful sunset thanks to the almost ubiquitous marine layer offshore. I was pretty certain that I was going to get a rerun of that same old color snuff film I have seen out here so many times over when suddenly I started getting cloud colors. I kept shooting and ended up with one of the more colorful sunset shows I have seen in the past few years. This is the first one I processed on my laptop last night but there are a lot more to come.

The rocks are dark but this is basalt that is black even in bright sunlight.

C&C always welcome.

Very pretty, Alan! I think that the amount of foreground detail and the light hitting it is the star of the show here. The shadows could use a slight boost, but nothing too much to make it unrealistic. I'd also look to make a slight CW rotation to level off the horizon.

Cheers!

The horizon line is an easy fix but I will wait until I get home on a bigger screen to play more with the light.

That is a pretty sunset for the Oregon coast. I like the reflections in the wet sand here too.
Thanks Ben - this is actually very early in the sunset color show - it went on for another 15 minutes after this and progressed into purple skies :) I moved around to catch different pool reflections while I shot so the stash I collected last night isn't all the same scene.

This is very nice Alan! Congrats on getting some color at sunset too!

I like this composition, that sky looks super cool. When you get a chance to play with this more, I think cropping off the top of the sky to lose the blue sky part could strengthen it even more. I think that blue stripe is potentially a distraction.

Love the image. Agree with Jim about the crop suggestion. The foreground is really strong with the way the water movement is captured and reflecting the colors in the sky.
