Some Years are Better Than Others

Last fall was an almost over the top display for fall colors in the Columbia River Gorge and especially compared to this year's colors. This is one from late October last year that was still two weeks from peak and still had more amazing colors than we saw any time this fall. Two panels at 70mm.

C&C always welcome.

Yeah, this year was not up to snuff color wise, at least what I saw the few times I hit the gorge. This one is much better. I wish we had more reds this far west!

Thanks Michael - I have been quite disappointed with the Gorge colors this fall but it was always a given that anything would have been a letdown after last year's blowout color show. I shot the scene above on Oct. 23 thinking it was the most amazing fall Gorge colors yet but it kept going for two more weeks and got even better. I took a bunch of shots this fall at Rooster Rock in the same spots as the scene above and am uninspired to process them....

Very nice view with some spectacular colors. We take what and when we get it.
Thanks Jameel - as I just mentioned to Michael given what I saw/shot in the Gorge this year I might be digging out more captures from last fall to process/post. Glad I shot up a storm last fall when I had the chance :)

That's why I started going to Minnesota for my fall colors. After 30 years of golds from the Eastern Sierra to Colorado, I was craving some colors! It's cool in Minnesota where drone shots can look like bowls of Trix cereal with every color in the rainbow being in the trees.

Very cool Alan. I like this view a lot. It's too bad colors were not that good.
Thanks Jim - I did better out at the coast than up in the Gorge this year. It was always going to be hard to beat last year's colors. Old timers in the area all say the only time they had seen colors as vibrant as 2023 was once back in the mid 1970's.
