Snow Crocus

This was the scene in my back yard on Wednesday with a small cluster of Snow Crocus blooms soaking up the late morning sun. As of this morning they are no longer visible under a few inches of snow and ice with more snow falling as I am posting this. Quite likely the snow will all be gone by tomorrow afternoon but seeing all the white falling yesterday out the window and processing this shot was quite the contrast.

Wow spring comes early in your neck of the woods. They are such a beautiful colour.

pretty flowers. we still have a few inches of the white stuff from our tuesday storm. that's some really green leaves for this time of year. i don't expect to see anything even thinking about budding around here until at least the end of march. we might get green grass by mid april.

Thanks Trent - doesn't quite feel like spring outside right now although we do have quite a few different bulbs (regular crocus, daffodils, and hyacinths) with sprouts coming out that will be blooming over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Beth - the ground cover strawberries stay green year round and so does the grass in our front yard. Winter as you know it doesn't really exist out here west of the Cascades which is part of why we moved up here

I spent a lot of time studying historical weather data on the Western Region Climate Center (WRCC) before we moved up here from Salt Lake City in 1998 while thinking about where we wanted to live after retiring.

Thanks Jim - Spring has sprung? Well on that count I shoveled a path back to our backyard this morning so I could knock about 4" of snow off of one of our hummingbird feeders. Happily for us the rest will have melted off by tomorrow afternoon as we will stay above freezing for the next week or more.
