Very nice shot. I would be highly tempted to darken that sky just a bit on the right hand side. There is some fun drama up in those clouds that could add a lot of punch here.

Hmm, let me give that a try. Once you said it, I also noted that it lets the eye wander off the image on the right side too. Quick luminosity mask and here is the result...

I like the sky in the edit but the ground level and Shiprock itself actually look better to me in the first one with not quite so much darkening. The edit also shows a bit of a halo around the left hand side of Shiprock. Of the two shots I would stick with the first one.

Yeah, was a quick and dirty. Trying to be quick yields crap results! I still agree, just need to tune it a bit. I hate that the eye wanders off the page more than anything.

Hey Doug, that's a cool shot. I do like the original the best. If you just lightly darkened the sky just a bit in the right half of the shot, leaving everything else alone, I think that would really work.

Beautiful shot and I little original processing. If you want to hold the eye in a little more you could add a slight vignette too.

I definitely prefer the first, but also agree with Alan. I would use a red filter converting in Silver FX to darken the sky and bring out the clouds, then perhaps an adjustment brush in the top right to darken just a bit so the sky is even, but also add some contrast so the clouds stay bright. Very nice shot of an iconic place well worth working on.
