Sheep may safely graze

Last night as I was sleeping, I hear a distant sound which I thought at first might be coyotes. But as the got closer it was clearly the bleeting of sheep. They were all around my truck and running back and forth and the bleeting was very loud. The near full moon made them easy to see. I did not see a shepherd or dogs, and it took at least 20 minutes for them to pass. It was after midnight.

This morning I took my sunrise images and had breakfast. As I was getting ready to leave, I heard the bleeting again and saw this scene. They were not here at sunrise.

Old school shepherding - some things don't really change all that much. If my memory serves me correctly there is a Basque population in Utah that handles the herding tasks and they used to have wagons that looked like they came off a boat from Spain. Not sure if their mobile dwellings have changed in the years since I left Utah.

Yes Alan, California also has a sizable Basque population and run sheep along the eastern sierras.

I have seen the new Shepards camp gear, it looks a lot like the old wagons with 4 wheels and the rounded top, but it is made to be pulled by vehicles not horses. The wheels are modern vehicle wheels with regular tires.

And there is a bakery there where they sell sheephearders bread that is really good.

That is a sizable herd.

It was Jameel. I suspect they move them at night to avoid riad traffic.
