Sharing the Trail

You need one of those rear view mirrors road cyclists often use with a trail that busy :)

Nice.

Are you hand holding the GoPro in front of you while running? There was one spot right around the 3 minute mark where your shadow is partially visible with what looks like the camera in front of you.

Thanks Alan. It's a good thing I still have good hearing. :)

Yep, I am holding it in my hand. I tried using the head strap when running in Joshua Tree before. The issue with it is you don't realize how much your head is on a swivel until you view a video taken that way. It would make the viewer dizzy with the video going back and forth. By holding it I can easily keep my hand pointed forward no matter where I look. And I can see what is being recorded. I had seen my shadow briefly gotten into the shot, I was wondering who would notice. :)

Also good that you are not wearing earphones listening to music instead of being aware of what is going on around you. I don't listen to music while I run on neighborhood streets and want to be able to hear cars in advance of seeing them. More important yet on the trails where you are being overtaken in close quarters on a regular basis.

I have been running my whole life, I can't remember a time I didn't run. As I became an adult, I remember moving back to Southern California after I got out of the army and had bought a condo in the middle of the city. So I would run around blocks there, I remember trying to listen to music when I ran. After 6 years of running in the forests in Washington or the mountains and hills in Colorado, the noise in the city was a bit overwhelming. So I tried listening to music when I ran. I had always been know for being a good pace runner, as I could keep a consistent pace. But when I tried to listen to music while running? I couldn't keep a pace no matter what, my legs felt out of sync, it was just totally horrible. So I stopped that brief experiment. And I learned how to get into a zone while running but at the same time still be aware of noises around me to be safe, but tuning out those sounds that weren't. If that makes sense?

And I should add, even as a teenager, listening to loud music never appealed to me. You can only listen to John Denver so loud... :) And in the military I always used the ear plugs they assigned, and also wore hearing protectors later when I worked in Manufacturing. Having good hearing was something I always prided myself on. So I do have better hearing then most.

I do like the way the hero stabilizes the footage. Better than my 8. Nice job with the processing also.
Thank you Jim! It does a great job with stabilizing. I had the Hero 7 before which only stabilized the Timelapse or time warp. So to have videos with stabilization but also equally important is the horizon leveling. It helps to remove the side to side swinging when running or moving.
