Selfie/Instagram era

The other day Kyle posted an image and described having people spotting him getting ready to shoot and then making a point of staying in the scene once they knew he was there. I wondered about whether this was actually a reflection of a new generation that is so entirely self absorbed that being in Kyle's picture was in fact a goal for them no matter what Kyle's intent was for the image. In effect they saw the fancy camera gear and decided that maybe Kyle was going to take some incredible image that they could be seen in once it got published.

I was almost hoping I was wrong about that although it would be consistent with a number of similar situations I have encountered in recent times. I stumbled into this article this morning that confirmed my worst fears:

I saw that too. There are an awful lot of people that have convinced themselves that the path to "instafame" is paved with copying other people's shots of girls in floppy hats looking at nice scenes. The hordes will overrun just about anything.

Yeah, I had seen that article too. It’s sad people seem to be so self absorbed they have lost all respect for other people and property. Sadly the trampling of the sunflowers does not surprise me at all.
