Seldom Seen

Along the chain of stratovolcanos in the Cascade range Mt. Jefferson is the one south of Mt. Hood. I don't often get atmospheric conditions that let me see this peak but yesterday morning was one of those exceptional opportunities. The peak is 85 miles from my house. Shot as a 2 panel panorama using the 166mm lens.

I did launch this morning to see if I was going to get a repeat but the smoke was way too thick to allow anything resembling yesterday.

That's so cool Alan that you got this. That's too bad it's a rare event to see.
Thanks Jim - I do look for this view often but don't get many visible days worth capturing. There wasn't even a hint of a view this morning with much heavier smoke obscuring this entire part of the Cascades.

Alan, beautiful high clouds. I love the layers on the foreground.

Thanks Oliver - the layers are mostly from wildfire smoke. I am just working on a 166mm shot of Mt. Hood that has the origin of the low smoke layer visible - the Camp Creek Fire.

Curious atmospherics with this sunrise since we almost can't see the mountains at all most of the time right now. There must have been some high elevation wind patterns that cleared off the peaks on this particular morning. Mornings like this one keep me looking out the window and launching in case this sort of scenario happens again. Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson are not peaks I can see from the ground (or a second story deck) at all so its only the quadcopter tripod with a telephoto that gets to see this scene.
