Scenic Cigarette Break

If you're entering Zion NP from the east, the first pull out on the right is the Checkerboard Mesa Viewing Area. I had just pulled in there to scope out an Infrared shot when a big tour bus pulled in behind me. The bus emptied and suddenly there were 50 people standing around the pull out, 49 of them smoking cigarettes! I made a few photos and got the hell out of there. 665nm Nikon DSLR

I like the IR rendering of the ponderosa pines around that area - a distinctly unique take on this familiar view.

Reminds me of a time I was up at the Dead Horse Point parking lot and a white tour van pulled in. Immediately 10 people or so got out smoked their cigarettes then threw their butts on the ground and left.. Smoking is still quite pervasive in other countries...

What's worse is that guy as a fashion statement....
Shirt, pants, socks... ugh...

Thanks Alan. I do believe that IR is the answer to dull tones on evergreens!

What is a 665nm Nikon?

They were all speaking French, more than 50% of the men had shaved heads and many, many tattoos, so much for French style.

665nm refers to the Infrared filter mounted over the sensor. It records IR and just a little bit of visible red.

And yeah, I can't deal with cigarette smoke, it might as well be a poison gas as I feel about to die if I smell it. Oh wait... it is poisonous....
