Sand Lilies and Astragalus

We've had numerous Spring snowstorms here in Colorado, making wildflowers appear late. A few days ago, I went for a hike in the foothills and, except for the first 1/10 mile, was completely on snow. Because of this, I went just over 2 hours away to the grasslands in NE Colorado to look for wildflowers. There weren't many varieties out (mostly the same ones less than 10 minutes from my home!)

Sand Lilies (Leucocrinum montanan)

Astragalus (maybe Missouriensis?)

Nice blooms - even if you did have to drive a long ways to find them. I like seeing the water droplets in the background petals in the second image.

It was nice to get out of town to an area where there used to be virtually nobody -- that day the main parking lot was full & people were camped all over the place. It was overcast & occasionally enough drops of rain that it seemed like the threatening clouds were on the verge of bursting open. Perfect weather to shoot flowers!
