Salt Lake

The Salt Lake in SLC. A very interesting place. It normally doesn't look like this but towards late summer to early fall time, algae starts growing. The images below are mid day fighting with a swarm of insects. The challenge to keep them away even momentarily from swarming the front of the lens adds to the adventure.

Is this out on Antelope Island? The view back towards the Wasatch Range reminds me of that locale. I do like the colors in the first image.

Can't say I have been out there when the algae shows yellow like this in spite of living in Salt Lake City for 24 years. Normally there isn't much living in those waters besides brine shrimp and tetanus.

Pretty much anything that goes into the water dies and sinks to the bottom until a storm churns it up to the surface. There are times when the wind prior to a winter storm can churn the water enough to scour the bottom (the lake is very shallow). You do not want to go near the lake when this occurs - the local descriptor SLC residents use for this is "lake stink" and it can get pretty bad.

Yes this is on Antelope Island. Only visited SLC a couple of times (my daughter lives there now). And this is from my only visit to Antelope Island.
