Rushing River

Hey Martin,

Welcome! It is great to have you here, it's really awesome having so many of the old gang back together again. :)

This is very cool. Love that wide rushing river! I sure wish I had been able to spend more then 2 days in Scotland. I still have some relatives living there too!

As for your Avatar, that's a great question. All you have to do is click on your name in the upper right corner. A Profile box will popup. You will see the Word "Avatar" in the left column, just click on that and it will prompt you to upload an Avatar. The only restriction is that the Avatar must be 200x200 pixels.

Thanks a lot for the kind welcome, Jim. I am really chuffed to be here!

Thanks re Avatar. I had tried several times but my pic was 260pxls on the long side which was what was stymieing my efforts - doh!

As to Scotland - it's never too late. Barry made it over 2x already!

This, by way of an introduction to this forum, is a picture from Glen Etive in my native Scotland. Glen Etive runs off to the right as you emerge at the top of the the better-known Glen Coe.

Hi everyone, nice to meet you :)

PS Perhaps some kind person could tell me how to upload an avatar?
Awesome soft light in the valley. Beautiful image Martin. Welcome!

Thank you very much for the positive comments everyone. I was trying out a wide angle lens (Sigma 12-24) on a FF camera for the first time on a shoot around Rannoch Moor and Glen Etive in the Northern Highlands. You have picked up on the features that attracted me to the scene - the powerful rush of the river over the stones, the perspective of the rush seeming to come out of the mountains and the active (always in Scotland!) sky and light. The feeling of being "drawn in" was very strong as I was standing rather precariously on a shelf-like ledge above the water, which enabled this perspective and the mood was enhanced by the sound of the powerful flow of water beneath my crouching feet!

Nice to meet up again with Jim, Barry and Alan from our meet ups in the PNW and, of course, as Barry implies, I've been with him to Glen Etive on several occasions when he has visited with me in the UK. :)

Thanks for looking and commenting Kyle, Ryan. I have to confess, Ryan, that the 12-24 was borrowed from a companion, Dimitri. Since then I bought my own and later on I managed to leave the lens cap and its adaptor by some waterfalls near that spot  so the lens is now more vulnerable, as it seems almost impossible to replace them! It would have made for a more dramatic story if it had been dragged from my grasp by the torrent!

This is a very different water feature image and I like it for that. The sky colors just adds to it.
