Rosy faced love birds - Mesa AZ

many years ago (40+) some Rosy Faced love birds escaped in the Phoenix area - well they have thrived in the area and are now considered a colony in the valley - they are cute and colorful so I am always on the look out for chances to photograph them - today we had a lot with some fun behaviors -

Nice shots of them in a wild habitat. I used to raise them. Do you ever see any of different color mutations? Last I knew there were 105 recognized colors in captive breeding programs.

They look quite colorful. What do they feed on?

They eat seed, fruit etc. An unusual trait of the female peach-faced lovebird which they are also called, is that the female weaves nesting material into her tail/rump feathers to carry it to her nest. The males sometimes try, but never get the hang of it. Other species of lovebirds don't do it either.

I have seen other head colors - pale blue/green - and others have seen some with faded pastel feathers
