Quick Trip to Point Reyes

I had a free afternoon today and the weather forecast looked promising for Point Reyes, so I decided to take a drive. I hadn't been there in years so I was glad to have the chance to explore. I decided to try my luck at the sea stacks south of McClures beach. I arrived about an hour before sunset and there were some promising clouds overhead. I was able to take advantage of some of them early on, but they dissipated before having a chance to pick up any color. These were my two favorites:

1) Red rocks and clouds

2) Sunset and sea stacks

The tule elk were close to the road, so I snapped a few photos of them as well

3) Bull standing guard

4) I don't think these guys were serious about fighting, but it was fun to watch

Looks like a worthwhile excursion. I like the contrasts between the red rocks and the skies with some great shutter speed choices for the incoming waves. I am almost surprised at how calm the swells appear given the stormy weather along the coasts this winter. Neat shots of the elk.

That's awesome you got to go there. I have had so little time at the beach lately, I am jealous!

#2 is my favorite as I love the motion of the water coming in, and to get the elk as well is such a neat bonus. I don't get up to that area often, but I don't recall seeing any elk around there.

Nice set of images Kyle. I had flashbacks from the beach images, I was there a little over 10 years ago and jumped down off a rock and almost landed on a gigantic seal, scared me half to death 😅
