Some of my favorites shots of them over the years
Thanks Ben. The flight shot was one of 2 birds that came all the way from the other side of the Tidal Falls and flew almost over my head.Really great set, I particularly like the feeding shots, but that flight shot is pretty good too. Woodpeckers with there bouncy flight patterns are hard to catch in flight.
The pole with the nest was replaced a couple years ago, probably because of them nesting in it. They drilled out the new pole the following season.I love these shots - all of them. The last two with the in flight shot and feeding especially.
I have been hoping to catch a glimpse of one of these woodpeckers every time I wander in the woods and have yet to see one in the wild.
Pileated woodpeckers are the largest woodpecker in North America known to still exist, measuring 16-18 inches. These are so awesome Debbie! I love woodpeckers, but I have never even heard of this kind I don't think. What a cool an unusual shape to it.
You really scored with these. My favorites are #3, 4 and 5.
Some very nice shots here. I really like the shots with the young ones. Some of my favorites shots of them over the years
