Pile Up

Pile Up is from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at the Yonce Farm in Ridge Spring, SC. This was my first "dip of the toe" into the extreme macro world. I decided to add an extension tube to my normal rig. So, for those of you wondering, that's a Canon 180mm L, 2X Extender, and 36 mm of tube. I don't know what magnification that is, but it has to be greater than two times life-size. I liked how these daylily anthers were stacked so close to each other.

Nicely seen. I do like the stacking effect.

Surprising to me how much depth of field you are getting out of this macro combination. I would have expected a more shallow result.

Alan,
Yeah, it's incredibly shallow. Even a bit difficult to work with as you really have to get the subject perfectly lined up with the sensor. The DOF preview was all but required for this work. I got lucky with this flower in that the anthers were all bunched close together. But, even with all that, you can still see that the bottom RHS anther starts to exit the zone of sharpness fairly quickly.
