Pfeiffer Beach Arch

Pfeiffer beach in Big Sur has some really nice rocks just off shore, including a couple of arches. This one has become a popular photographic target every winter when the light of the setting sun shines through it.

For whatever reason, I had this spot to myself several years ago and spent a lot of time trying to time my shutter with the waves crashing onto the rocks. This was easily the best splash of the night (causing me to be slightly over exposed in the water).

Any thoughts are welcome!

I absolutely love the golden spokes of the splash, great timing and shutter speed. This is an awesome shot. I might clone out that red thing lower right. to keep attention on the splash.

Kyle, love this shot & you nailed it. The very first time I went there got something very much like this & yes, very few people.
Now it is packed with people & I never have had the right conditions since...

Hey Kyle,

This is pretty cool indeed! I do wish that area hadn't gotten blow out also. Wave splashes can sure mess up the metering with an instant momentary bright light in the scene. But still, a really sweet shot, and how great that you had the place to yourself.

Thanks a lot Ben - I'd never noticed that red thing before and now I can't unsee it.

Thanks Jim - I have drawn some detail back into it. Even with the blown out sections, it is still nicer than the other shots I had by a large margin!
