Percolating Half Dome

This was from last week in Yosemite as I was after fall colors. Normally at sunset the face of Half Dome gets lit up really cool as most of you have seen I am sure. On this evening it did light up at the very beginning when the whole face was lit, then the sun must have gone behind a cloud on the horizon as the color and light turned very flat on Half Dome. Then just as this one cloud that was moving across the scene hit the peak of Half Dome the color and light came out! If you look close you can see the very top of Half Dome is being lit by the sun!

It was a night where easily one could have packed it in after the light first faded, but I am glad I stuck around.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Some people have all the luck when it comes to scoring conditions like this. Not only did you get nice colors from Half Dome you also got an almost perfect reflection below. And fall colors?

Did I mention I'm jealous?

I've been wanting to shoot that spot in autumn for several years. Looks like you got some great conditions for it!

This shot is sweet Jim, you had to tell me you might have had color on the face of half dome. You got everything else. Not only fall color, but healthy aspens all in color with no dead or half gone trees.

Man Jim, I bet you were super excited to see this scene take place! Not giving up early ALWAYS has it's benefits! Beautiful!

Yeah, I have been wanting to do the same. Always something ended coming up so I would miss the fall colors. This year though I was just determined to get there with fall color.

Thanks Ben!

Yeah, I did get some shots with the face of Half Dome lit up more, but then that changes how the clouds are lit up so there is give and take. I will work on one of those later.
