Partial Solar Eclipse over Oamaru, New Zealand

This morning we had a partial (76%) solar eclipse as dawn broke over New Zealand, so I was of course out there to try to capture it. I was stymied by a bit of cloud during parts of the event, but it was clear for much of it. I had three cameras going, two focused on the sun itself (see my post in the astrophotography forum for that) and one shooting a wide timelapse. This is a frame from the latter.

Yeah, I think it is better for most people to see the eclipse in context. I have a timelapse that I'll see if I can post as well that I really like.

Hey James, I commented on this one in the Astro section. I will say that I like it a lot, but I wouldn't say I prefer it over your tighter sun image. They are both totally different kinds of images, so I think I like them both the same. :)

I do like with this, the little details like the boat out in the water.

And a timelapse would be super cool to see, did you do that with the Seestar?

I shot a few timelapses—one of the sun close-up with the Seestar, and one with the water showing the sun rising through the sky. Unfortunately it’s too big to share here but it’s on my Instagram, @oamaruastro.
