Yes - I load most of my images into the gallery and then use a link to that image in the thread rather than uploading an image into the thread. It results in a better quality image in the thread and allows you to click on the thread image to take you to the gallery. The default gallery image is downsized so you have to click on the gallery image to get to the full size image. Jim's comment above is that it would be nice to be able to go directly to the full sized image from what is shown in the thread.
Actually it isn't the same quality once the uploaded image goes above 1200 pixels wide. We did a bunch of tests not long after this site came online and above 1200 pixels wide the site software resamples the image down to 1200 pixels using it's own algorithms which aren't very good. Gallery images can go much wider than 1200 pixels without resampling.

Alan, it's been a while since we did that. Can you post the same image, say at 1600pix wide in this thread? One uploaded directly and one in the Gallery then that you link?
Good idea Jim. A single click would definitely be much more user friendly then having to click more then once.
