Our Bike and Boat holiday started in Passau in Germany and we boarded our boat on Saturday lunchtime.
Danube Impressions by BIKE + BOAT Passau-Vienna-Passau | eurocycle.at (radreisen.at)
We have previously cycled the entire route from Passau to Vienna on normal bikes carrying our own luggage but this time we had hired electric bikes and, of course, we only had to carry what we would need for a few hours cycling. It was really quite luxurious with (far too much) great food.
Our boat
We started by crossing the river on the small ferries especially designed for cyclists, this was the only time that we had to queue as approx 100 cyclists wanted to cross at the same time.
The Danube cycle path is terrific, great surfaces and little but usually no motorised traffic.
After a few miles we arrived at the Schlögener Schlinge where we crossed the river again, the shot shows the small bike ferries that can carry a dozen bikes and cyclists.
We then hiked up to the viewpoint, unfortunately the light was very flat but the view was great. To give an idea of scale, the barge on the left is carrying 60 cars from the Dacia car factory in Rumania up to dealers in Germany, slow but cheap.
On for the rest of the 28 miles that we had to cycle that day before on to the boat. Ken
