Nik 4 Collection on Sale

For just $99 you can get the Nik 4 Collection. If you don’t have it, I can’t suggest enough that you buy it. Many of us have been using it for years, I am still using the free version from years ago, though I had bought the older paid version before that.

Even though my old free version works still, I am thinking about buying it on sale. To both get any upgrades, and to support DXO for reviving it and bringing it back from the dead.

If you already own the older version keep an eye out for upgrade sales. I upgraded my elderly version to the new one in May for $59.

There are a lot of posts on forums complaining about bugs in this version. Apparently this is not ready for prime time. I still have the Google version which works fine. I only use silverfx now and mostly use topaz for other stuff.

I had a version from when NIK still owned the product that wasn't behaving all that well anymore and at least so far SilverEfex is working much better on my machine (Mac). I migrated over to Topaz years ago since Google pretty much left the NIK suite to rot until they finally sold it to DxO.

They have added some new features and presets to SilverEfex which is pretty much the only module I care about after migrating a lot of my post processing over to Topaz. I have not seen anything from Topaz that can challenge SilverEfex for B&W work.

SilverFX used to be my most used part of it, though I would also use ColorFX a lot for the film effects when I was doing weddings and portraits. For B&W, I have switched to just Photoshop and Topaz Clarity. So for me I was looking still to the ColorFX part.

Thanks Jameel, good to know. I think I will wait then.

Another thing to keep in mind if you use smart objects. If you have files where you used the older nik plugin on a smart object it will not render it properly with the new plugin as they redid the way the nik plugins work.
