NGC3372 Great Carina Nebula

We had another clear night all last night so I took the opportunity to re-shoot the Great Carina Nebula, NGC3372. I had a bit of trouble with some wonky guiding early in the evening, caused (it seems) by my having failed to lock the AM5 mount after polar alignment, but I got it back in gear without missing too many shots.

This comprises 97 five-minute frames (33 in H-alpha, 28 in O-iii and 36 in S-ii) processed in Pixinsight.

Hey James,

I am glad you got the guiding issue figured out early. It's never fun when a technical issue messes up a night of imaging.

There are a few objects that you can image that we can't up north, but at the top of the list, is the Carina Nebula! It stands alone in how cool it is.

Great job capturing it too. I think this is one of the better images of it that I have seen.

This is wonderful - such a great target. I am hoping to have at least some rudimentary ability to shoot this on my trip down to Australia in the fall (spring down there of course.) It looks like it would still be visible for a portion of the night, and along with the Magellanic Clouds represents the some of the really iconic southern sky targets that are so compelling to view and image.
