Maastrcht is a wonderful old town said to be the oldest or 1st established city in the Netherlands and is where my stepdaughters husband ended up with a 3 year contract for his work. Poor guy.

Maastricht, a university city on the southern tip of the Netherlands, is distinguished by its medieval-era architecture and vibrant cultural scene. In its cobbled old town, is the Gothic-style church Sint Janskerk, and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Servatius houses a significant collection of religious art. On the banks of the Maas River, bisecting the city, lies futuristic-looking Bonnefanten art museum. ― Google

What a wonderful place to work from, and made the perfict meeting point for our 2025 EU vacation.

A three year stint stuck in this place? Such a bummer ;) The place is gorgeous. You need to find more reasons to visit them. How is your stepdaughter's Dutch?

Thanks for sharing the views!

I am seeing that your travelogues are going to be vey educational Ed! I am learning new things with each one. The first thing is, I had never heard of this town before, so that's awesome. The idea of a parking garage just for bicycles is a little mind blowing. Who would have thought? They must really ride bikes and not cars as much?

Did you have those super thin pancakes that they make there? Have you heard of Solvang? It's along the 101 a little ways south of Big Sur and north of Santa Barbara. I love to stop in their as they are Danish and have such awesome food. Those pastries you showed? I make sure to buy a boxful anytime I drive by. My favorite, is the danish with the cherries in it in the lower right of your image.

I've seen the bicycle parking garages myself. Bicyclists have their own two-way street between the sidewalk and road for cars, and I almost got hit by a bike when I first visited because I didn't look both ways while crossing the bicycle road.

Here's a fact for you about Dutch canals, especially those in cities: These waterways are composed of 3 feet of mud, three feet of water, and 3 feet of bicycles.
