Mysterious Morning

Wow - I could easily spend far to long gazing into this one. Staring off into the distant matching dune sets is almost like a 3-D Mandelbrot set.

Most excellent! All the shadows and textures work together, but the curve of light on the close dune really makes it, leading the eye from the bush into the dunes.

Jeffrey,
This one is pretty beautiful. I had the pleasure of staring at this image now for the last 40 mins ( I was on the phone and placed on a brief hold w/the bank Arghhh...) Besides the great lines and texture I find the most compelling part of the image the light. Especially how it is reflecting off surfaces deep in the background of the image. This is one of my favorite places to shoot for everything that you have captured in this image.
Regards,
Dean

Thanks everyone for your most kind comments.

I visit these dunes every time I go to DV. After so many years, I feel that I've made my best work there already. On this visit, I wandered around as usual, and there were no clouds. I wasn't feeling excited and captured a few scenes but none that stayed on my mind for a while in anticipation of processing them soon. You know that feeling when you click the shutter and yell out 'Yes!' even though there's no one there to hear you. I find that with dune images, something that seems common when you're there, may really come alive with good post processing. This was one of those.

Jeffrey, I do say I keep coming back to this image. There is truly something special in how you captured and processed this. It doesn't rely on over the top colors like some photos do today. Since it's B&W it relies on pure artristy between light and dark.

If we had a Photo of the Month, this would be in the running!
