Mt. Rainier Skiing II

Got back down to Mt. Rainier for a couple more days of skiing on the Paradise Glacier. Both days my partners and I had it to ourselves. Perfect weather, but the snow is getting a bit lumpy with suncups, so the 4+ hr. drive down won't be worth it for me again this summer.

Andy rips the steep entrance pitch to a run we call The Stash because it holds skiable snow late into the summer, and few people get back there because it's a good bit of a hike.

Lower down in The Stash. Cowlitz Glacier behind.

That does look like some pretty ragged snow at this point but isn't that about par for this time of summer? I love the views from up there.

That looks like some fun skiing Jim, and it’s great you had the place to yourself.

How many runs do you guys get in typically?

Jim, a few years ago I could do a full 3,000 ft. run down the Cowlitz Glacier, then climb back up for another 2000 ft. on the Paradise before heading another 1,500 ft. down and back to the car. These days one big run with a shorter drop does it for me - I always want to keep a reserve so I don't make any mistakes at the end of the day when I'm tired.
