Morning Hug

There are a number of parks along the beaches of the northern Oregon coast and Hug Point is one of them just south of Cannon Beach. The name of the beach dates back to Oregon's early days when there was no road along the coastline. The Governor declared the coastline itself to be a roadway with the end result that the entire coastline of the state from the border with Washington down to California is owned by the state and is public property. There are no private beaches on the Oregon coast. On this particular beach high tide blocked access to a drivable path between two beaches so a notch was cut into the edges of a cliff just wide enough for a wagon/car to go around the point. The notch gave this beach it's name of Hug Point since you had to hug the cliff with your vehicle to drive past.

This is a sunrise scene at low tide along the beach from a visit in 2005.

C&C always welcome.

This is really nice Alan, the cloud mimics the rock and balances out the whole scene. I think without that particular cloud the scene would look off balance but this just works. Love it.

Thanks Jordan - the composition was all about the rock, the cloud, and the reflections with a hint of sunrise colors.

I liked the history lesson on Hug Point Alan! History is always interesting.

And I like how you balanced the image. The rock and the cloud do balance well.

Thanks Jim - you have walked around the point where the roadway is carved into the cliff as I have seen one of your images of the small beachside waterfall that is on the other side of the point.

This gives out peaceful vibes to the max. True therapeutic art. My favorite of all your images I've seen thus far!
Thanks Michael - I have to confess to neglecting the northern OR coastline beaches in favor of central and southern locations for quite a few years now. Processing this one reminded me that there are still good scenes to shoot much closer to home.

Very nice image Alan - like the pastels, the fluffy clouds and the hint of reflection. The rock anchors this.
Thanks - I was having fun with the rocks out on that beach at low tide since each one had its own little puddle at the base with some fun reflections of the sky colors.
