Morning after Christmas Sunrise

That's a beautiful sunrise! I'm struggling to pick a favorite. I like the wide view and subtle color in the first. The third has that great sunstar and I really like the light in the last one.
Very nice set, I also like 3 and 4 a lot.
Very cool work Stephen! Nice job working that sunrise, and it's cool seeing the progression of color and light.
My favorites are #3 and 4 like Ben. I would like to #3 though cropped as a pano. I think if you crop off the bottom to crop out that bottom open area on the left side it would be even stronger. What I like with #4 is that it's a bit brighter and the red in the scrub brush is now able to be seen and adds a great element to balance with the color in the sky.

Very nice set. I hate picking favorites out of sets like this but the last one with the better view of the local geology and the nice diagonal formed by the tops of the reddish tree tops keeps my attention a bit longer. #3 with the nice sun star is a close second. I wish I could see more of the river at the bottom of that third image.

Jim, I too hate the darned open area in the lower left and the houses too. In the summer, the houses at least are less visible but in the winter, they are really annoying. #4 is my favorite in part because while there are houses there are less prominent in the scene being more distant and because the vegetation has more color and adds interest rather than the trees without leaves in the earlier shots. The last one was also the latest of these four. As for cropping the left side in number 3, the mountain in the distance on the left is called "Terrapin Mountain" and this crop would remove the turtle's head but might still be worth it....

Thanks Alan. The "river" is not a river, I fear. I THINK it is a small pond that is a widening out of Norton Mill Creek, but I am not sure. The creek is quite a small watershed as this is, for the east, fairly high altitude. We can hear the creek off our back porch roaring after a rain but it is at barely a trickle during dry summer weather.
Edit: it is actually a small reservoir. Who new?

Wow, beautiful shots. Highlands is such a beautiful place and you've captured it well. I'm guessing from somewhere near the golf course but I could be off. Here's a snapshot I took with my wife's a6000 this last Fall. The whole mountain had been socked in with fog all morning and just before we left it cleared just enough for me to take this shot, just to document our short visit. Our son is one of the architects working on a renovation on Sagee and we dropped by for a tour on our way to the Smokies.

Thanks for your kind words. These were from a overlook in the Cullasaja Club where we have a home. I lust after a house near Sagee as I love the view through the valley where you see both Whiteside and Chimney Top as you have in your pic. Lovely shot.
