Very nice composition - I love the foreground branch as an inclusion. Nice work with the B&W.

I really like your composition, using the old branch in the foreground is great. It feels too dark though.
The other issue is the halo around along the horizon and especially the West Mitten. If there are halos in an image, B&W will make them more prominent then color. On an image like this I might use the Quick Selection tool to select the sky, if your intent was to brighten then ground then I would inverse.
It's a pretty wide Halo, but you can also try this Trick to eliminate Halo's that I wrote an Article on here: (1) Halo Removal in Photoshop | Focal World
