Nice one Jim. I was only there for photos once and never had time to figure it out. I need to return to the eastern Seirras at least one more time.

This worked quite well. Nice cloud layers and colors.

Like Ben I have only been there once and the water was much lower than what you show here. I didn't walk away with many useful shots.

Hey Jim,

The tower placement in this is excellent, and the sun's location is perfect. This is a great example of how centering can work really well under certain circumstances.

I was just out there, and the water level was much higher than I remembered last year. I guess heavy precipitation doesn't show itself until the following year at Mono.

Thanks you guys!

Water has slowly been rising. But the biggest key to getting good shots at Mono Lake is just making sure you are at the right area on Mono Lake. There are tufa's scattered all around it, but there is really only 1 or 2 main area's where the tufa's really stand out. Most of the other area's the tufa's are crumbled and much smaller, and not very photogenic.

You both should get back down here again. Alan, you almost made it until winter storms blocked your path.

Nice one Jim. The sky is really nice and the elements all come together. I shot a similar composition but the sky wasn't anywhere near this good.

Great timing and framing, Jim. That's a lot of formations in one image! To me the foreground is too bright for the little light tat that early sun would provide.

Thanks Jeffrey. The sun had broken the horizon and was burning through the clouds so the ambient light was pretty bright, nothing was in shadows that I recalled. But I can understand you thinking the foreground should be darker, I had that thought myself, but with a darker foreground, the shot then didn't feel natural to me, so I went with this. If there was a subtle adjustment to darken it a bit, I just couldn't come up with it as I was processing.

Thanks.
