Mono Lake Sand Tufa

If you hike north from the popular Mono Lake South Tufa parking area you will come across several small patches of sand tufa, which look even more alien than regular tufa spires. Not great light in the middle of the day, but with a B&W conversion the clouds and sky pop a bit more. There are even larger areas of these tufa if you take to road to Navy Beach and again hike north from the parking area. The tufa in this image is about 4 feet tall.

The Sand Tufa's are fun! My favorite ones are the ones by Navy Beach.

I like how you composed and processed this. A higher contrast B&W works perfectly.

Thanks guys! Next time I'm down there I think I'll try some shots at night - might work if I can get a low enough angle to get more sky in the frame.
