Mavic 4 Pro Specs

Still at the endless rumor level but some specs are starting to look real. A site called DroneXL has published what looks like the final specs of what the Mavic 4 Pro will look like with a potential release date of May 13th with official teasers on May 6th. Might be an interesting new aerial photo platform although pricing might be up for grabs here in the US.

Hey Alan, I don't have time to click on the site, can you list the major upgrades from the Mavic 3 Pro?

Are you going to get the 4, when it finally is released?

100 'effective' MP camera, whatever that means. So, is the file size the same as my Fuji GFX 100MP medium format camera? Does '1/1.3" sensor size' mean that it is actually a 1" x 1.3" rectangle? They are going to pack 100 MP into that space? Good luck. 16 stops of DR is pretty hard to believe. The DR of the current M3P is somewhat dismal so I am not expecting such a large jump into the fantasy world of 16 stops. Does sound a bit like sensationalism. I need specs on the sensor in real world photographic terms.

Excellent questions Jeffrey - for me these specs make nice marketing but tell me nothing about what to expect for image quality. I will be perfectly happy letting someone else be first in line for one of these. Looks like there are several over on the Mavic Pilots forum lining up for the release.

This is not an upgraded Mavic 3 Pro - it is an entirely new drone that doesn't share any parts of the Mavic 3 Pro. New cameras, new sensors, new controllers, new batteries, new gimbal. It's a long list to try to summarize.

Gotcha, thanks Alan. So they carried on with the name, but made a whole new drone to market it.

Keep us updated on anything more you hear or see.

Until we see the official specs on this new specimen most of what is being said is endless speculation and pontification. The link I posted above is the most realistic info I have seen. Jeffrey is asking the right questions - what are the sensors that have actually been stuffed into this drone and what will this do for us as aerial photographers who shoot stills? The market seems to be slanted a bit towards the video customers right now.

At this point I am still looking towards May 6th for DJI factory teasers and May 13th for actual product. I am going to wait for some hands on reviews that go well beyond market hype to be honest.

the cameras will be a bit different. similar sensor sizes but different focal lengths. the camera housing on that image looks like what we've been told at work. we're supposed to get a few mavic 4t drones when they're released.

That gimbal sure looks different! It looks like the nose of a B21 bomber!

One thing that I’d really like is a better sensor for the 166mm (or equivalent). It isn’t as good as the other two sensors. Ideally all three with identical sensors will tempt me.

The part that is going to be the hardest to deal with is the pricing after US tariffs - a $3000 drone right now is going to cost $7350 after the 145% tariff is applied......

So this is now officially announced and as of now no plans to sell it in the US (Prices announced in GBP and EURO only. Probably related to tarrifs.

The 168mm camera goes from 12MP in Mavic 3 Pro to a whopping 50MP. The main camera (28mm vs 24mm for Mavic 3 Pro) is 100MP. The 70mm resolution remains the same at 48MP.

I will be quite happy to be sitting on the sidelines until we can see some honest RAW images out of the cameras on this new beaste. I do like the idea of better sensors behind the telephoto lenses. The focal length equivalent for the lenses are 28mm, 70mm, and 168mm.

Full specs can be found in this thread on the Mavic Pilots Forum.

That's vaporware! It's an interpolated pixel count not based on the native resolution of the sensor. Beware of marketing bullshit.

This is where the US release delay helps - let the eager Canadians and Europeans grab the first ones so we can see some hands on examples at their expense.

the first sample photos look good. we were supposed to get a few 4t's for work, but that's up in the air right now. we'll still probably get them, but it might be from a source outside of the us. the camera specs are a little different for the 4t.

The 4T looks quite different than the Mavic 4 Pro with an entirely different gimbal:

that looks like the matrice 4t. we've got 2 of them. they're much bigger than the mavic series, and more expensive too. the controller is huge. it's a great drone, but the larger size makes the matrice series less appealing for work. bigger size means more likely to get tangled in wires in a tight city scene. the mavic is hard enough to fly indoors, the mini is preferable for indoor flying, the matrice is impossible for useful indoor flights.
